2024 Olympics - All information about the Summer Olympics

The 2024 Olympic Games will be hosted in Paris for the third time in Olympic history. The Summer Olympics will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024 and will be framed by the opening and closing ceremonies. The opening ceremony in Paris 2024 will not take place in a stadium as usual, but on the Seine, which flows through the middle of Paris. Athletes from all over the world will gather around and the Olympic flame will be inflamed. Look forward to the spectacle of the 2024 Olympics on Eurosport 1, ARD and ZDF.

Olympics 2024: Live on ARD, ZDF and Eurosport 1

ARD, ZDF and Eurosport 1 are offering a comprehensive program including live broadcasts of the 2024 Summer Olympics. ZDF will begin on July 25 with the first day of coverage of the women's Olympic soccer tournament. ARD will broadcast the opening ceremony on Friday, July 26 from 18:00, during which the Olympians will be transported to the Trocadero on boats across the Seine. ARD will also broadcast the first day of competition on Saturday. After that, the broadcasters will alternate and show up to 17 hours of live coverage every day. The competitions usually take place between 8:30 am and 11:30 pm. The channels generally start around an hour earlier and broadcast until midnight.

Eurosport 1 will devote 24 hours to the Summer Olympics in its program. Live coverage starts every day at 7 a.m. with the breakfast show "Bonjour Paris".

Olympics 2024: Hosts and Experts

ARD and ZDF are relying on the same presenter duos for the Summer Olympics as for the European Football Championships: Esther Sedlaczek and Alexander Bommes will lead through the Olympic program on ARD, Katrin Müller-Hohenstein and Jochen Breyer on ZDF. On Eurosport 1, Birgit Nössing will start in the morning and presenter Thomas Wagner will lead through the evening.

ARD and ZDF will have more experts in Paris than last time in Tokyo. Among others, Erste is relying on former winter sportsman Felix Neureuther, Frank Busemann (athletics) and Dorothea Brandt (swimming). The ZDF team of experts includes Kristina Vogel (track cycling) and Jonas Reckermann.

Team Eurosport 1 comprises around 30 experts for Paris 2024. Among them is former tennis pro Boris Becker and seven Olympic champions, including Ole Bischof (2008 Olympic champion) in judo, Fabian Hambüchen (2016 Olympic champion) in gymnastics and Fanny Rinne (2004 Olympic champion) in field hockey.

The first competitions of the Summer Olympics will start even before the opening ceremony: Three team sports will kick off on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. The first preliminary round matches will take place in handball, 7-a-side rugby and soccer. The first medals in eight sports will then be awarded on July 27, 2024. The competition calendar at the 2024 Olympics is long, with competitions starting early in the morning and ending shortly before midnight. 32 sports and 48 disciplines are a part of Olympia in 2024. In addition to the classics such as Athletics, Swimming and Cycling, Breakdance will be part of the Olympic Games for the first time in Paris 2024. So there is something for every sports fan.

2024 Olympics venues

The main competition for Olympic gold at the 2024 Summer Olympics will take place in Paris and the north of the city. A large number of the venues already exist so that only a few sports facilities have been built especially for the Games. Competitions will be held at many of Paris' famous landmarks: Place de la Concorde, Roland-Garros Stadium, Grand Palais or the Eiffel Tower Stadium (pictured), for example. However some sports will also take place in other French cities such as Marseille, Lille or Nice. Soccer will be played in 7 cities at the 2024 Olympics. The equestrian athletes will be competing for a medal at the Palace of Versailles, while the surfers will be competing in the French overseas territory of Tahiti in the South Pacific.
